Peer Solidarity

Peer acceptance & solidarity is a critical component to the law enforcement profession. Policework relies heavily upon the aptitude of the “team” and “peers” for survival. The culture is a peer-driven environment that has been historically adverse to vulnerability or treatment and recovery from trauma. This highly interactive, peer-driven course provides officers a fundamental understanding how the impacts of police stress effects the mind and body and provides tactics for coping with cumulative trauma.

Rebuild Resilience

Repeated exposure to trauma can cause maladaptive coping strategies to permeate into our lives. This class aims to help navigate through trauma and implement strategies which promote holistic wellness approaches, mindfulness best practices and improved mental health outcomes into the personal and professional lives of our first responders by helping to rebuild resilience.

Smash Stigma

Stigma is still a highly active component which prevents many officers from seeking the help required to reestablish healthy and balanced lives. If stigma was not a factor, thousands of officers would seek help to restore their lives, marriages, friendships, etc. Smashing stigmas, educating ourselves and rebuilding resilience is required to change the course of history. It’s Okay to NOT be Okay, it’s NOT okay to stay that way.

Mission

Our mission is to provide wellness training & consulting services to law enforcement agencies and their personnel to achieve improved mental health outcomes and maximize organizational health & wellness.

Vision

Our past negative behaviors can be reversed when we begin to heal past traumatic events. Emotional trauma can be addressed to achieve self-regulation, which generates healthier behaviors essential to living a purposeful life. This cannot happen in isolation or by repeating the mistakes of our past. It takes a community to heal; this can be accomplished by working together.

Purpose

The purpose of this course and/or consulting services is to understand the impacts of trauma on law enforcement and stigma and provide necessary tools to rebuild resilience, in an effort to provide law enforcement with best practices that will help with their overall wellness to have a lasting, meaningful career and balanced life at home. The highest professional standards in training are sought by fostering a safe, holistic, non-judgmental, peer-driven learning environment where students play an active role in a controlled class setting, facilitated by an instructor who is not a clinician or attorney, but a retired officer himself.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Students who attend this course will learn how to identify post-traumatic stress symptoms and how to navigate through the complexities of untreated trauma. Students will also have a better understanding of wellness strategies that will positively impact their professional and personal lives.

We are traumatized by experiences. We can be healed with experiences.

Untreated trauma can result in the appearance of high level coping (or adaptive coping: nutrition, diet, exercise, yoga, meditation, faith, etc.). These are not, however, examples of trauma work or emotional regulation and it only takes one circumstance or incident to trigger a past traumatic event that without trauma work, the landscape in which you interpret the new event, identify why it’s affecting you and how to navigate your way out of the problem becomes a probable reality that may deregulate the central nervous system and brains responses to new AND past events.
